The perils of Indecision

Everybody knows that it you are presented with a good offer then you must take it – but often you will think ‘there is something wrong’ ‘there is something even more juicy at your competitors’ or people say ‘yes’ and then get cold feet and maybe pull out of the deal. In fact there is a word (or two words!) for it: cognitive dissonance. Now BMW, the motor manufacturer does probably the best automotive cars in the world – why does BMW still advertise if that was the case. Everybody knows that BMW are the best. A large number of customers will pull out of the deal unless they were still reminded that they made the right choice – this is cognitive dissonance.

In your house sale this is what you should do – decide that you are going to move now and plan out where you are going to live after the house has sold. Research the market place – ring up everybody in two days and get quotes (with realistic figures, not pie in the sky prices). You will discover that we are the most competitive – if you think that that prices will rise over a 10 year period. And then go for it.

What you don’t want to do is act indecisive. You will be forced to lower your price, and lower your price; trying to follow the market. You will be still there in your same house 3 years later with no buyer – we come across people every day who will ring us and tell us of the same story. With no money now, jobs that were there but not any more, emigration plans put on hold, just getting rid of the house in auction for 50-60% of the value.

Take a stick and put it in the sand. A RICS valuation (that you do not pay for, obviously) and move on with YOUR life. And ring us last 020 7385 4498.
